About

20 years ago, four strangers were canoeing on the far shore of Lake Louise when their canoes collided. The damage to their canoes was substantial and the four strangers made it to shore as the sun was setting. They built a fire and lit it by harnessing the last of the sun’s rays by making a magnifying glass from a watch bezel filled with the clear, cold water of the lake. During that first night in the wilderness they fought off wolves and one intrepid castaway took down a moose with his bare hands. All through the night they sat and told the stories of their lives and looked across the choppy waters of the lake where the reflected lights from the Chateau Lake Louise taunted them from the far shore.

The four were rescued the following morning and as they made their way across the lake in a rescue boat they swore they’d remain forever friends. Once they’d made it back to safety however, their desperation to put their trauma behind them had them scatter to the four corners of the earth, never to speak again. Or so they thought.

In 2009, the four found themselves on Twitter where they’d gone to promote their various business ventures. Once they’d become reacquainted through Twitter, they found the strength to get closure on the events of that cold, cold night so many years ago. As they went through their various processes of grief and discovery (in alternating waves), they each realized that what they’d missed most during their ordeal was the sound of an outside voice.

As an exercise in healing, they launched what’s come to be known as a Let’s Blog Off.
